There are lots of toothpaste brands available
in the market with different flavors and
colors. The manufacturing of such toothpastes
involve the addition of chemical additives
to get desired tint, smell and taste. This
lessens the efficiency and the objective
of the toothpaste. Even though such toothpastes
are available at cheaper cost, it is not
advised to use for tooth gums as muscles
and root of gums are sensitive that can
be affected easily.
An alternative product will obviously be
a natural one which means the ingredients
used for the preparation of the toothpaste
were obtained from flora that exists in
nature. This ancient practice of using herbal
products for teeth was found to be adopted
first by the Indians. They used Neem as
their vital ingredient in the preparation
of herbal toothpaste. It is believed that
herbal products can cure almost all the
ailments effectively according to the study
of ayurveda, and thus it also suited for
formulation of toothpaste, which serves
as a treatment for gum ailments. Toothpaste
products are said to be manufactured using
neem, in such cases the addition of neem
flavored pigments was made. However, the
pure herbal toothpaste does not contain
any color or odor additive in it.
Neem
being an anti-bacterial as well as anti-microbial
herb, can serve as an incredible treatment
for gum ailments. Toothpaste of neem is
prepared to use neem bark, and neem twigs.
Interesting fact about neem twigs is that
it is used as an herbal toothbrush. It is
observed that Neem bark can cure gingivitis
and various other mouth diseases. Neem
bark and twigs has the bitter taste
thus it makes the paste unpleasant for use.
However, considering the positive side of
neem bark, it can detoxify the microbes
present in the gum and kill them, keeps
the mouth clean and fresh. Mint leaf paste
can also be used in the paste for better
odor and taste.
Preparation of toothpaste is done by grinding
the neem bark and neem twigs into a fine
paste by adding few ml of water to it. For
better odor and taste mint leaves are added
with the mixture and grinded as well. Baking
soda, an alkaline is added along with some
hydrogen peroxide in the paste to get rid
of microbes that cause bad breath after
brushing.
Thus neem is significant in using it as
herbal toothpaste for healthy gums.
Note: Brush twice a day for effective results.
