Significance of Neem as a Herbal Toothpaste:

There are lots of toothpaste brands available in the market with different flavors and colors. The manufacturing of such toothpastes involve the addition of chemical additives to get desired tint, smell and taste. This lessens the efficiency and the objective of the toothpaste. Even though such toothpastes are available at cheaper cost, it is not advised to use for tooth gums as muscles and root of gums are sensitive that can be affected easily.

An alternative product will obviously be a natural one which means the ingredients used for the preparation of the toothpaste were obtained from flora that exists in nature. This ancient practice of using herbal products for teeth was found to be adopted first by the Indians. They used Neem as their vital ingredient in the preparation of herbal toothpaste. It is believed that herbal products can cure almost all the ailments effectively according to the study of ayurveda, and thus it also suited for formulation of toothpaste, which serves as a treatment for gum ailments. Toothpaste products are said to be manufactured using neem, in such cases the addition of neem flavored pigments was made. However, the pure herbal toothpaste does not contain any color or odor additive in it.

Neem being an anti-bacterial as well as anti-microbial herb, can serve as an incredible treatment for gum ailments. Toothpaste of neem is prepared to use neem bark, and neem twigs. Interesting fact about neem twigs is that it is used as an herbal toothbrush. It is observed that Neem bark can cure gingivitis and various other mouth diseases. Neem bark and twigs has the bitter taste thus it makes the paste unpleasant for use. However, considering the positive side of neem bark, it can detoxify the microbes present in the gum and kill them, keeps the mouth clean and fresh. Mint leaf paste can also be used in the paste for better odor and taste.

Preparation of toothpaste is done by grinding the neem bark and neem twigs into a fine paste by adding few ml of water to it. For better odor and taste mint leaves are added with the mixture and grinded as well. Baking soda, an alkaline is added along with some hydrogen peroxide in the paste to get rid of microbes that cause bad breath after brushing.

Thus neem is significant in using it as herbal toothpaste for healthy gums.

Note: Brush twice a day for effective results.
