Pine trees belong to ornamental evergreen breed, which has the high caution of plant pests’ attacks, especially for worms called Bagworms. The Bagworms are supposedly winter pests that lay eggs over the needle like leaves of the tree during the cold season. On further course the eggs hatch into larvae from which the destruction process starts. The adult moths of bagworms are less destructive when compared to the larvae of the species. Mostly, the worms have a preference over ornamental plants rather than other types, but sometimes it said to heavily infest woody trees as well. The purpose of ornamental trees like pine is defeated due to these insects.
The damage consists to be the yellowing of leaf needles followed by the dropping of leaves. Defoliation of Pine is achieved extremely and in that stage the whole tree is about to have lost almost all the leaves. This type of intensive defoliation is when the worms reach large population and this population due to elevated rate of multiplication, which is because of careless monitoring of the trees and also improper care. Even though the infestation of worms is very slow that they take more than a few months to destroy, inefficient plant care can help them to do so.
It is a difficult job to get rid of bagworms
intensively populated in pines. Moreover,
the repelling or
controlling of worms is seen inefficient
on use of synthetic pesticides lacking effective
insecticidal property. Bagworms are quick
enough to adopt the circumstance after the
spray of such pesticides and establish them
with much comfort. Manual picking of the
worms is a conventional method of control
to a certain extent. But the efficiency
of control is less to that of the efficiency
on using organic
Neem
oil spray. In method of manual identification
and picking is impossible at the time of
matured population of worms.
Use of Neem oil spray on Pine leaves can proficiently keep the worms away from the tree with its characteristic strong foul odor. Environmental Protection Agency of United States certified Neem oil as one of the best organic insecticides and with this certification it can be stated that Neem oil will not harm any tree or the plants surrounding the infected tree on its spray.
