Neem oil effect on Black vine weevils of Strawberry:

Like all other trees, Strawberry trees are also exposed to a variety of pests that ruin their fertile growth. Black vine weevil, a kind of root weevil is often noticed to feed over the root at the larval stage and the leaves during the adult stage. The insect is also likely to cause wilt in leaves, which may be due to the consequence of damage created in the root system.

These weevils belong to the beetle category and generally characterized in Black color, and so they are sometimes called as Black beetles. The adult weevils occasionally feed the edges of leaves typically causing notching in leaves. Moreover, strawberry trees are subjected sequential attacks of the weevils at the early plant stage itself inside the greenhouse when the plant is potted. During the infestation in the greenhouse, the pot soil gets drilled by the larvae making soil medium loose with gaps in between the layers.

Black vine weevils start their invasion into the plant area only during night time through cracks and fissures. They avoid hiding between the grasses and mostly prefers moist land or soil fill or even cemented land. Since the transformation into larvae will be during winter months, the infestation throughout the season will be intense than other seasons. Spotting of insects is very difficult in this case and drives the process of controlling a questionable one.

Strawberry is one of the major cash crops for United States as well as England and farmers over there are often affected by the disintegration caused by these black vine beetles or weevils in the plants. Therefore, the control of these weevils has to be made proactive with the help of any effective method. Organic products are proven to be better against most of the insect varieties than the synthetic pesticides.

In particular, Neem oil which is an extracted oil of neem contains the pesticidal constituents that can act best against the larvae of Black vine weevils and also keeps the area allergic to the hard adults to invade when it drenched with soil. The vine root weevils feel the medium unsuitable for the infestation after the application of neem oil and thus their effect is totally brought to negligible level.
