Non-toxic control of Root Weevil in bushes using Neem oil:

Weevils are type of beetles that belong to the family Cucurlionoidea. Among the weevils, Root weevil or Black vine weevil is a severe kind of pest generally found in the Rhododendron bushes and in backyard gardens. As the insect name suggests, this type of weevils feeds particularly the root part of the plants. The damage in roots is critical and shallow roots are subjected to intense attack that even leads to plant loss. In the life cycle of root weevil, the devouring of plant roots starts at the initial larval stage itself with gradual progression in the intensity during adult stage and finally ending up in the complete loss of foliage.

These weevils are considered to be one of the most vicious insect species that takes up arboraceous trees and plants. Notching is a sort of characteristic infestation carried out by the Root Weevil that initiates during the pre-summer season and then the need for rigorous control is triggered, which should be taken immediately after the emerging of a new set of adults in their routine life cycle. Controlling measure against larvae of weevil seems to be less effective, and thus it will be appropriate if made against fresh adults. As a result laying and hatching of next generation of weevils can be barred, predominantly.

Selection of control measure has to be done based on the justified result produced by the method so far. Seeing through the pile of such measures, Organic treatment holds excellent records against almost all types of insects irrespective of the environment conditions and cost. Less toxic control methods are preferable for every gardener because it is a duty for them to ensure environmental protection while carrying out the control process.

Neem oil which is a least toxic and organic product can be the used for the treatment of Root weevil adults feeding the dense bushes in summer. The extracted oil from need leaves or seeds contains few important constituents exhibiting the pesticidal property that on spraying will repels the larvae and adults species of weevils from the plant leaves. Spraying regularly during night hours can stop the insect to disperse into the farm or garden for further damage. Pure eco-friendly products of neem can anyway help the novice plant caretakers to protect the plants various other pests. These Weevils can also be controlled through biological methods, which involve the application of nematodes against the weevils.
