A wide range of fungus attacks are seen in States of America. Particularly in the state of Arizona, farmers are witnessing new fungal diseases for which they cannot rectify the exact treatment measure. In recent, a fungus by the name “Sweet Orange Scab” has shook the farmers having orange farms in Arizona. This plant fungus has the unique characteristic of damaging the orange trees especially. Yuma and Maricopa are the two main province of Arizona to have observed the spoiling of Sweet orange scab. The name of the fungus itself suggests that it damages only the outer part of the fruit.
This disease is not very much risky in the sense that the fungus does not affect the fruit quality rather it ruins only the external appearance. The Agricultural Department have issued a notice regarding the consumption of oranges that the infected fruit will not influence the health of humans on eating. This statement made by the government of United States Department of Agriculture to the people is to appeal for the boosting the sale of orange within the states as everyone started to avoid buying oranges after seeing its poor ineffectual appearance caused by the disease. Since 2010, after the first identification of disease in Texas there was not effective treatment put up for its control. Orange farms owners are very badly affected because of this, in some chance it is expected that this disease can drop down the market of oranges.
In another way it disturbs the fruit exports of the state of Arizona. After the research on the type of fungus causing the disease, it was presumed that it can be one kind of Phytopthora fungus which is an already observed fungus variety that also affects the sweet oranges. While looking for the appropriate treatment product, organic fungicide was suggested to be best in this case as previously it has been experimented with the fungus of Phytopthora.
Organic fungicide like Neem oil is said to be a valuable and efficient in controlling the spread of the fungus Phytopthora. Referring to that, farmers in Arizona started using Neem oil fungicide for Sweet Orange Scab hoping to get treated. Choice of using Neem oil will be excellent in experimenting with any newly evolved fungus since it is organic and bio-degradable, means it does not cause any side effects for the plants as well as the environment.
