Leaf curls are kind of plant disease mostly found to occur in plants belonging to citrus variety. Among common leaf curls, the type which occurs in Peach plants is a prominent one because the color of the curled leaves changes into reddish-brown, and it is easy for a gardener to identify it. After the identification, there is nothing to do with the disease in terms of its control as the fungus brings down the plants metabolism following the formation of curls.
Taphrina deformans is a fungus and also a pathogen responsible for this leaf curls disease in peach plants. Humid climate and damp condition are well-known to promote the growth of every fungus so as in this case. During winter months the fungal spores called Conida holds onto the plant leaves between the pores' space. It needs a moderate temperature between 15 to 20oC to survive and spring will be the apt time for the spores to expel.
On due course white powdery substances are found to be deposited over the leaves, and it is mainly due to the outbreak another type of spores called ascospores on further fungal reactions with the plant cells. New saplings are easily prone to the disease since the fungus targets young plant tissue for its endurance and therefore, intense care is requisite.
At mature stage of infestation the plant will exhibit nil effect on any fungicide spray. Consequently, preventive measure is the only positive step to keep the disease controlled. Organic fungicide spray can be self-sufficient in making the leaf surface unsuitable for the fungus to deposit either by wind or water. Avoiding the deposition of fungus avoids their growth thereby reduces the infestation.
Neem oil an organic fungicide as well as insecticide can be the right choice of product for plant fungus control. This oil has genuine compounds that possess fungicidal properties as per the research studies. Spraying of Neem oil can be safer than application of other fungicides for a reason that it is organic. Months from January to April require special attention on plants in order to evade this disease, and it is the right time to spray neem oil.
